About this course
For children who have difficulty learning, retaining, and retrieving new vocabulary, it is often because they do not understand that there are categories of words based on how they are used. When they hear a new word, not knowing the category means they have no way of "filing" it in their brain, making important associations, or understanding its relationship with the context. Based on recent brain-based learning research and created by a pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist with 40 yrs experience teaching language skills, this course provides 5 modules for learning synonyms by category, presented in a visual and verbal context. Modules include synonyms for familiar people, places, actions, feelings, and descriptive words. Emphasis is on the process of using context clues to determine word meaning and word category, not on memorizing a vocabulary list.
